It's very impostant that you specify the location of the folder that you are selecting as the location for the downloaded files. Files downloaded from the internet are the most likely to contain malicious code. There are security components in Windows 7 that are designed to prevent infections.

If you are downloading to a system location, Windows may transparently redirect the download to a more secure location. Method I'm using MSE for antivirus. The latest file I'm trying to download is IE9, directly from the Microsoft site.

Ought to be virus-free, agreed? Sometimes when I attempt a download and specify "Run," the screen says it is dowloading to "Temporary. If I specify "Save" I can name a download location.

I've tried Desktop, Downloads, etc. Pls see my reply to John Rudby, just above your post. I'll copy it below to ensure you can see it. I've tried both to Save files and to Run them. When Run is selected, the file says it is going to Temporary but I can't find it in Temps. The OP never returned to this thread or his original thread so we don't know what the OP's resolution might be.

I tried both buttons with the same result. XPI file downloads to Documents. No Install button. I click to restart Firefox and it restarts. Firefox shows extention as installed but it is not installed under Programs in my system, also no shortcuts anywhere.

Thanks again. Thank you for your help John I did what you suggested. I had no luck opening this file. I have downloaded several add-ons from Mozilla add-on page. Usually there is a window with Run or Save options. Now there are Open or Save options. I tried both. I get no usual warning from Windows.
